How did Dan McLaughlin Lose Weight?

Dan McLaughlin lost 75 pounds from having a previous weight of 175 lbs. This was after being sober for a couple of months of being under probation due to alcohol addiction

According to the National Health Service (NHS), a standard glass of wine contains as many calories as a piece of chocolate. In particular, a pint of 5% strength beer contains 239 kcal or 50ml  of 40% gin has 95 kcal in it.

Wine, beers, cider, spirits, etc. are naturally made from starch and sugar that is why alcoholic drinks are one of the reasons why alcoholic people gain weight. Usually, alcohol contains 7 calories per gram that contain as many as a gram of fat, excluding its mixer drinks such as cola or tonic water that can add more calories.

When going off from alcoholism, your body changes a lot and starts to heal on its own. One of the things that occur when being sober is weight loss. It can significantly help you in chopping off your waistline and prevents you from getting diseases linked to alcoholism like type2 diabetes, cardiovascular problems, and liver problems.

To keep your limits in alcohol intake, here are tips on how to do it according to the National Health Services (NHS):

  • men and women are advised not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis
  • spread your drinking over 3 or more days if you regularly drink as much as 14 units a week
  • if you want to cut down, try to have several drink-free days each week

Fourteen units are equivalent to 6 pints of average-strength beer or 10 small glasses of low-strength wine.

Usually, gin, rum, vodka, whisky, tequila, sambuca that contains large (35ml) single measures of spirits are 1.4 units.

Not only can sobriety from alcohol help you in weight loss but it can also help loose skin. An alcohol-free body will help your skin to feel more hydrated, which prevents early signs of aging like wrinkles, fine lines as well as rosacea and eczema.

Did Dan McLaughlin Undergo Alcoholic Treatment Program?

To get on with a straightforward answer, yes, Dan McLaughlin went an alcoholic treatment program a few years ago.

On September 24, 2011, McLaughlin got into an unfortunate accident when he was arrested for drunk driving (with a speed of 40 to 60 mph) using his white Chevy Yukon that went on and off its lane in Chesterfield.

Police officer Daniel Dunn asked for his license but Dan introduced himself instead. The investigation stated that he had a bond set of $250 and was brought in the court that sentenced him to 90 days in prison while having 2-year probation. Not only that, but his driver’s license was also suspended for a year, and had a $1000 fine and ordered to complete 100 hours of community service. He also had to complete his alcohol treatment program, which is a two-week meeting for at least 5 hours a day with a sobriety support group and wore an ankle bracelet that detects him drinking alcohol.

In a span of 13 months, this was his second arrest for drunk driving. While his first arrest turned out to be easy, his second cost him much of his life. This resulted in a huge setback in his career. He got an indefinite suspension from his part-time work as a sportscaster at KMOX. The same way, he also went off-air from Fox Sports Cardinal. He also opted not to continue college basketball broadcasting assignments with ESPN, the University of Missouri, and the Missouri Valley Conference.

The alcohol avoidance of Dan McLaughlin made him cured of the addiction and gave him positive remarks. FSM’s General Manager stated, “He went to rehab and still goes to daily meetings regarding his alcoholism – and the way he had handled himself.”

Dan also revealed how he tried to take the necessary steps aggressively. He said, “I’m cleaned up, sober, and I’m very conscious”. He added, “That’s what’s always on my mind, to make sure I take care of what needs to be taken care of.”

His alcohol-free life is the reason why he was given the second chance to get back to the 15th season on the Fox Sports Midwest.

The Cardinals president, Bill Dewitt III, stated the positive remarks on how Dan’s response to his recovery. “You can see tangible results. He’s lost weight (75 lbs), he has said all the right things.” He also added, “Your instant reaction is you want to be swift and judgmental,” he said. “But also there’s a second-chance culture in America.”
